The Office
Saint
Rose School opened in 1960 with grades one through four under the
leadership of Monsignor James Corcoran, Pastor, and Sister Margaret
Helena, Principal. The school was originally staffed totally by
the Sisters of Mercy of Auburn. Saint Rose continued to grow each
year adding another grade level and currently has an enrollment
of 308 students in nine grades, kindergarten through eighth.
The organizational
structure of Saint Rose School consists of self-contained classrooms
in kindergarten through eighth grade. Math teachers provide instruction
to students in grades five through eight. A science teacher works
with students in grades six through eight. The school is staffed
by lay teachers as well as one sister. In addition to the classroom
teachers, and the math and science teachers, Saint Rose School also
has part-time teachers for physical education, music, and an Art
Instructor.
As the
needs of the school have changed, expansion of school facilities
and programs has occurred. In 1982 a parish, multi-purpose facility
was constructed. The science room, gym, kitchen, and cafeteria housed
in this building serve many school needs.
In addition
an extension program was added to accommodate working parents needing
before and after school care for their children. The program shared
a room in the multi-purpose wing with other parish groups until
the summer of 1990 when a separate facility was completed.
In 1988
the kindergarten was enlarged. In addition, a computer room and
library were completed. The computer room was changed in 1996 to
a physical education, and math, and Spanish faculty office. Through
participation in grocery receipt programs, and Federal Title VI
funds, the library has grown beyond capacity and includes books,
periodicals, and a computer with a CD-ROM for research.
Curriculum
changes have also occurred. In 1993, a school wide writing program
was implemented and includes portfolio assessment of student writing,
and the use of rubrics for evaluation by both teachers and students.
During the 1995-1996 school year, the technology plan was developed
to support the effective use of technology in the teaching and learning
process.
